In this webinar, Julia E. McGuinness, MD, discussed the latest information in osteoporosis screening guidelines.

Osteoporosis is a common bone disease, especially prevalent among the elderly. Screening is important because it helps in early detection and treatment of the disease. Osteoporosis screening typically involves a bone density test, a painless procedure that measures bone strength. During the webinar, Julia E. McGuinness, MD, explained why screening guidelines should be tailored to each individual. She recommended choosing the most appropriate screening method based on personal risk factors and medical history. Postmenopausal women and those with a family history of osteoporosis should have regular bone density tests. Depending on the results, doctors may suggest lifestyle changes such as increasing calcium and vitamin D intake or specific medications.
