Dr. Felicia Cosman is a physician specializing in osteoporosis research. After graduating from Cornell University and Stony Brook Medical School, she received internal medicine training and completed her endocrinology fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. In 1988, she moved to Helen Hayes Hospital, becoming an osteoporosis specialist, clinical scientist, and medical director of the Clinical Research Center. Dr. Cosman's research focuses on the causes of osteoporosis and how the female hormone estrogen and drugs called SERMS treat osteoporosis. She also investigates experimental treatments, including parathyroid hormone, and studies the causes of stress fractures in military cadets.
