Why do cats develop osteoporosis?
Cats develop osteoporosis mainly due to several reasons. Firstly, nutritional deficiency can play a big role; if a cat's diet lacks essential nutrients like calcium and vitamin D, it can affect bone health. Secondly, age is a factor; older cats are more prone to osteoporosis. Additionally, some diseases like kidney disease or thyroid problems can lead to osteoporosis. Furthermore, long-term use of certain medications might contribute to the condition. To prevent this, it is recommended to provide a balanced diet, regular health check-ups, and appropriate nutritional supplements when necessary.
